Locate your nearest NIMC office or enrollment centre
Find NIMC offices at nimc.gov.ng → Enrolment Centers. You can also enroll at designated banks (First Bank, GT Bank, Zenith) and NCC partner offices. Many churches and mosques have been designated enrollment points.
Complete the enrollment form on-site
At the enrollment centre, collect and complete Form NIN-001. You can also pre-enroll online at self.nimc.gov.ng to save time at the centre. Enter: full name (exactly as on birth certificate), date of birth, home address, phone number, and email.
Provide biometrics at the centre
Your fingerprints (all 10 fingers) and iris scan are captured by the enrollment officer. Your photo is also taken. Biometrics link your NIN to you uniquely — this cannot be duplicated.
Receive your Transaction Slip
After enrollment, you receive a Transaction Slip with your enrollment ID. Your NIN is sent by SMS to your registered phone number within 24–48 hours. The NIN starts with a 7.
Apply for your National ID Card
After receiving your NIN, apply for the physical General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC) at the same NIMC office. The card costs ₦500 and takes 2–8 weeks to be produced. Track at nimc.gov.ng.
