A UAE work visa is sponsored by your employer through MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources) and ICA (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship). The process includes an entry permit, medical test, Emirates ID, and residence visa stamping.
- Job offer letter from UAE employer
- Valid passport with at least 6 months validity
- Educational certificates (attested by UAE Embassy in home country)
- Medical test results from approved centre
Your employer initiates the process through MOHRE
You cannot apply for a UAE work visa on your own — your employer must apply through the MOHRE online portal. Ensure your employment contract is standard and registered with MOHRE before proceeding.
Enter the UAE on an Employment Entry Permit
Your employer obtains an Entry Permit (EP) from ICA. This is a single-entry visa allowing you to enter the UAE. Print the EP. Upon arrival at Dubai or Abu Dhabi airport, immigration stamps your passport with a 60-day work visa.
Undergo a mandatory medical examination
Within 30 days of arrival, undergo a medical test (blood test and chest X-ray for TB) at a MOHRE-approved medical centre. Cost: AED 200–300. Results available same day. A positive TB result requires treatment before the visa is issued.
Apply for an Emirates ID at ICP
Visit an Emirates ID registration centre (ICP.gov.ae → Services → Emirates ID). Book an appointment online. Have biometrics (fingerprints and photo) taken. The card is delivered by post within 5–7 working days. Emirates ID is mandatory for all UAE residents.
Get the residence visa stamped in your passport
Your employer’s PRO (Public Relations Officer) applies for the Residence Visa (RP) through ICA. Once approved, take your passport to the immigration centre for the residency stamp. This stamp converts your entry permit to a residence visa valid 2–3 years.
