How to File KRA Returns on iTax for Employment Income

Every employed Kenyan must file annual tax returns on the KRA iTax portal, even if your employer deducts PAYE. Filing is free and takes 15 minutes.

📋 What You Need
  • KRA PIN and iTax password
  • P9 form
  • Employer’s KRA PIN
  • Bank account details

Log into KRA iTax portal

Go to itax.kra.go.ke. Click “Returns” → “ITR for Employment Income”.

Download the Excel return template

Click “Download Return Excel File.”

Fill in your P9 details

Enter employer PIN, gross pay, PAYE deducted, NHIF, NSSF.

Upload the completed return

Save and upload the Excel file. Click “Confirm Submission.”

Download your acknowledgement receipt

Save this as proof of filing.
