How to Register for an ELSTER Tax Account in Germany
Register for Germany’s official online tax portal to file your income tax return.
What You Need
- Steueridentifikationsnummer (Steuer-ID) – 11-digit tax ID
- Email address
- German address
Step 1: Get Your Steuer-ID
Received by post within 1-3 months of Anmeldung.
Step 2: Go to elster.de and Register
Click “Mein ELSTER” → “Neu registrieren” → “Privatperson”
Step 3: Receive Certificate and PIN
Download the certificate file, wait for PIN letter by post, then activate.
